Extreme-Woodlam™ Patented Panel System

The patented Extreme-Woodlam™ panel systems are installed on permanent structures or modular building façade systems and wall configurations, adding a layer of protection from extreme loading. This is a viable, versatile and cost-effective solution. As your needs change, so can your protection.

Extreme Loading Testing and Performance Validation

Extreme-Woodlam™ panel system has successfully passed a rigorous blast assessment, design, and testing validation program in accordance with industry-accepted blast performance requirements including ASCE’s “Design of Blast-Resistant Buildings in Petrochemical Facilities”, CSA S850-12 “Design and Assessment of Buildings Subjected to Blast Loads”) and US Army Corps of Engineers- Protective Design Center Technical Report PDC-TR 06-08.  The blast design, open air blast testing and performance validation of the Extreme-Woodlam™ panel system was conducted by Stone Security Engineering at the Stone-OBL Blast testing facility located near Bend, Oregon, USA. Further details on the blast assessment, targeted performance requirements, and testing reports can be requested and released to the authorized organizations.

Blast Testing

Blast Testing on Extreme-Woodlam™ panels was performed at the Stone-OBL test site located near Bend, Oregon, USA. The explosive charges used in the testing program were equivalent to vehicle bomb threats. Tests were conducted at various standoff distances with peak reflected pressures up to 35 psi (240 kPa) and reflected impulses up to 212 psi-msec (1461 kPa). No damage was observed with no permanent deflections.

Extreme-Woodlam™ panels with a similar through-thickness lay-up and spans would sustain significantly higher blast loads than those tested, prior to achieving permanent deformation. Overall, the Extreme-Woodlam™ panel has been designed and validated for various thickness and span configurations that apply to various applications including permanent structures or modular building façade systems and wall configurations. Further details of the Extreme-Woodlam™ panel profiles and material properties can be requested and released to the authorized organizations.

Extreme-Woodlam™ in Use

The Extreme-Woodlam™ panel system has been utilized for blast retrofitting conventional Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB), and integrated in the design and construction of the PEMB as blast-resistant façade and roofing systems. Overall, the Extreme-Woodlam™ panels provided a blast-resistant product with the workability and enhanced insulation properties of wood panels. Both properties make Extreme-Woodlam™ panels an attractive blast-resistant solution for building modifications/retrofits and for buildings located in hot and cold weather environments. The SPS Blast-Resistant Module Solutions (Enviro BRM™) combines steel framing with the Extreme-Woodlam™ panels and are far more environmentally amiable to manufacture, cost-effective, and are considerably ergonomically friendlier than conventional steel BRMs. Click for the full article for blast testing and performance validation of the Enviro BRM™ solutions with our integrated patented Extreme-Woodlam™ panel systems.
